This highly interactive course is worth one history credit or ½ art appreciation + ½ music appreciation credit on a high school transcript. It has been the favorite class among all that I have taught my students. Because of the unique combination of storytelling, class discussion, and multisensory activities, many students have told me that they love history, art, and music for the first time in their lives and that history becomes memorable.

From the perspective of a Biblical worldview, students will listen to music, view art, engage in hands-on activities, and discuss how each era of music and art fit into the bigger picture of history from antiquity to the twentieth century. Assignments will include weekly music listening and art viewing with short-answer questions and occasional creative projects. During the second semester, students will receive step-by-step instruction in how to write music and art analyses. Occasional music and art vocabulary quizzes will be given.

History

Meet Trina

Trina and her husband Bill raised their three homeschool graduates in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. After gaining some teaching experience in South Carolina’s public schools, she developed a special education program in a private Christian school in Northern Virginia. However, the bulk of her teaching career has been spent teaching history, writing, music, and a variety of other subjects in homeschool groups with a goal to help students develop stronger executive function skills to improve general cognition and enjoy learning.

Trina also teaches private voice and piano lessons in her home. When she is not researching ideas for classroom activities or working on music, you can find her crawling on the floor with her grandsons, creating in her kitchen, hiking in hopes of spotting a black bear, or curled up with a good mystery.
